# How to configure automatic idle logout

Idle logout automatically signs out a register after the device has had no activity for the configured period.

## Set the idle timeout

1. Open **Settings > Security**.
2. Under **Session Security**, enable idle logout.
3. Enter the number of idle seconds allowed before logout.
4. Save Security settings.
5. Test the behavior on the device without leaving an active customer transaction unattended.

## Choose a practical timeout

A short timeout offers stronger protection but can interrupt employees. A longer timeout is more convenient but leaves an unattended register available for longer. Values below 15 seconds are reset to 90 seconds when saved.

Idle logout is configured for the device. Review each register that requires the same protection.
