1. Session Security
Automatically protect unattended or completed register sessions.
How to log out employees after every completed transaction
Enable automatic logout after a completed transaction when each sale should end the current employee’s session.
Enable transaction logout
- Open Settings > Security.
- Find Session Security.
- Enable Log out after every completed transaction.
- Save Security settings.
What happens
After a supported sale, repair, or layaway checkout is completed, RepairNest POS returns to the logout screen. The next employee must sign in before beginning another transaction.
When to use it
- Several employees share one register.
- Sales must always be tied to the employee who completed them.
- The register is accessible from a public or high-traffic area.
This setting protects completed-transaction handoffs. Use idle logout as well when an employee may walk away before completing a transaction.
How to configure automatic idle logout
Idle logout automatically signs out a register after the device has had no activity for the configured period.
Set the idle timeout
- Open Settings > Security.
- Under Session Security, enable idle logout.
- Enter the number of idle seconds allowed before logout.
- Save Security settings.
- Test the behavior on the device without leaving an active customer transaction unattended.
Choose a practical timeout
A short timeout offers stronger protection but can interrupt employees. A longer timeout is more convenient but leaves an unattended register available for longer. Values below 15 seconds are reset to 90 seconds when saved.
Idle logout is configured for the device. Review each register that requires the same protection.
2. Employee Verification
Associate checkout activity with the correct employee and verify identity.
How to require employee selection on every sale
Require employee selection when every completed sale must identify the cashier or employee responsible for the transaction.
Enable employee selection
- Open Settings > Security.
- Find Employee Verification.
- Enable Ask for an employee on every sale.
- Save Security settings.
Before checkout is saved, the employee must be selected so the transaction can be associated with the correct person.
Related option
If individual invoice lines must be assigned to different employees, use the Register setting described in How to require an employee on each invoice line item.
How to require the selected employee’s password or PIN
Add password verification when selecting an employee’s name is not sufficient proof of identity.
Enable employee-password verification
- Open Settings > Security.
- Enable Ask for an employee on every sale.
- Enable the dependent option that requires the selected employee’s password or PIN.
- Save Security settings.
After an employee is selected, RepairNest POS verifies that employee’s credential before accepting the selection.
Good security practice
- Each employee should use their own credential.
- Do not share PINs between employees.
- Change a credential promptly if another person learns it.
- Remove or disable access for employees who no longer work at the business.
3. Transaction Protection
Configure supported Auto Shop transaction-lock controls.
How to configure Auto Shop transaction protection
Supported Auto Shop configurations can protect transactions until a configured receipt count is reached.
Configure transaction protection
- Open Settings > Security.
- Find Transaction Protection.
- Enable Lock Transaction.
- Enter the receipt count used by the protection rule.
- Save Security settings.
This section appears only when the Auto Shop module and related configuration are available for the location.
Confirm the intended receipt-count workflow with the business before enabling the lock. An incorrect value can interrupt normal transaction handling.
4. Cash Drawer Access
Protect the manual Open Drawer action with a local PIN.
How to lock the manual cash drawer with a PIN
Protect the manual Open Drawer button so employees cannot open the cash drawer without entering the configured PIN.
Enable the drawer lock
- Open Settings > Security on the register device.
- Find Cash Drawer Access.
- Enable the cash-drawer lock.
- Set a PIN when prompted.
- Save Security settings.
- Test the manual Open Drawer action.
After the lock is enabled, an employee using the manual Open Drawer button must enter the PIN.
The drawer PIN is a local device control. Configure and verify it on every register device that needs protection.
How to change or troubleshoot the cash-drawer PIN
Change the manual cash-drawer PIN when access responsibilities change or the existing PIN is no longer private.
Change the PIN
- Open Settings > Security on the affected register.
- Find Cash Drawer Access.
- Set or replace the cash-drawer PIN.
- Save Security settings.
- Use the manual Open Drawer button and verify the new PIN.
If the PIN is not requested
- Confirm that the cash-drawer lock is enabled.
- Make sure you are testing the manual Open Drawer action.
- Verify the setting on the same device connected to the drawer.
- Reload the register after saving when necessary.
If the drawer does not open
Security & Employee Controls overview
Security & Employee Controls protect unattended registers, identify the employee responsible for checkout, and restrict sensitive actions.
Controls in this book
- Session Security: Log out after completed transactions or after a period of inactivity.
- Employee Verification: Require an employee on every sale and optionally verify that employee’s password or PIN.
- Transaction Protection: Configure supported Auto Shop transaction locks and receipt counts.
- Cash Drawer Access: Require a locally configured PIN for the manual Open Drawer action.
Before changing security settings
Choose controls that match the way employees share registers. Stronger verification improves accountability but may add steps to checkout, so train staff before enabling new requirements.
Some options depend on enabled modules, and device-level controls must be configured separately on each applicable register.
