Register Settings Configure checkout behavior, aging alerts, customer requirements, receipts, invoices, product entry, and Quick Sale tools. 1. Checkout Controls Control discounts, quantities, pricing confirmation, costs, and cart placement. How to show or hide discounts and quantity controls Use these controls to simplify checkout and limit the changes employees can make from the register. Hide register discounts Open Settings > Register. Enable Hide Discount to remove discount controls from the cart and item-editing flow. Save Register settings. Use this when discounts require a separate approval process or should not be available during normal checkout. Hide quantity controls Enable Hide Quantity. Save Register settings. This prevents employees from adjusting an item’s quantity at the register. It is useful when items are normally scanned or entered one at a time. These settings change the visible register controls. They do not replace employee permissions or inventory rules. How to confirm prices and update product cost during a sale Price and cost confirmation settings help businesses that need employees to verify values while adding an item to a sale. Confirm prices Open Settings > Register. Enable Confirm Cost and Selling Price when available. Save the settings. Permitted employees will be prompted to confirm the selling price, or the cost and selling price, before the item is added. Availability depends on the brand and employee permissions. Update product cost after a sale Enable Update Product Cost After Each Sale. Save the settings. When enabled, a cost entered during the sale becomes the product’s purchase cost for that location and can be used automatically on the next sale. Enable this only when sale-time cost entry is part of your workflow. Changing product cost affects future profitability information. Train authorized employees before enabling this option. How to change the register cart position Supported touch-register layouts can place the cart on the left or right side of the screen. Change the cart position Open Settings > Register. Find Cart Position. Select Left or Right. Save the Register settings. Choose the side that is most comfortable for the device placement and the employee’s normal checkout motion. This option appears only on supported touch-oriented register layouts. 2. Aging Alerts Identify older serialized inventory, repairs, and layaways before they become a problem. What inventory aging means and why it matters Inventory aging shows how long serialized merchandise has remained available without being sold. It helps employees notice older devices before warranty, condition, and return-window risks become expensive. A common aging problem A store purchases a serialized device with a limited vendor return or warranty period. New merchandise keeps arriving and is placed in front of older stock. After 30 or 40 days, an employee finally opens or inspects the older device and discovers damage. The vendor return period may already have passed, leaving the store to work with the manufacturer or treat the device as used inventory. How aging alerts help Identify older available serialized items before newer stock. Encourage inspection while vendor return or warranty options may still be available. Support first-in, first-out selling and stock rotation. Reduce the chance of forgotten repairs and layaways. Help managers decide when to inspect, promote, return, transfer, or otherwise act on older merchandise. Aging does not change the item An aging alert is a warning based on elapsed days. It does not automatically sell, transfer, return, discount, or convert an item to used inventory. Employees must review the record and choose the appropriate action. To locate a specific device, see How to find a device by IMEI or serial number. How to set aging alerts for inventory, repairs, and layaways Set the number of days that may pass before older records display an aging or overdue indicator. Configure aging thresholds Open Settings > Register. Find Aging Alerts. Enter the number of days for Serialized Inventory. Enter the number of days for Repairs. Enter the number of days for Layaways. Save the Register settings. Choosing useful thresholds Serialized inventory: Set the threshold before important vendor return or inspection deadlines. Repairs: Choose a time that helps staff follow up before tickets become stale. Layaways: Align the threshold with the store’s layaway agreement and follow-up policy. Each value must be at least one day. Review the thresholds when supplier terms or business policies change. For the business reason behind these warnings, read What inventory aging means and why it matters. 3. Customer Requirements Control customer selection, required names, and referral-source questions. How to control customer selection and required last names Register customer settings determine whether employees see the customer selector and which customer information is required. Hide customer selection Open Settings > Register. In Customer, enable Hide Select Customer. Save the settings. Use this when the checkout workflow should proceed without presenting the normal customer-selection control. Require a selected customer Disable hiding if the selector should remain visible. Enable Select Customer Lock. Save the settings. This prevents employees from continuing with the walk-in customer when a named customer must be attached. Require the customer’s last name Enable Last Name Mandatory. Save the settings. After this is enabled, customer creation and editing workflows require a last name where supported. How to require and manage “How did you hear about us?” answers Referral-source answers help the business understand how customers discovered the store, such as a referral, website, social media, or walk-in visit. Require an answer Open Settings > Register. In Customer, enable How did you hear about us?. Open the answer manager that appears below the setting. Add the choices employees should be able to select. Remove obsolete or duplicate choices. Save the list and Register settings. Design useful answers Keep choices short and distinct. Use customer-friendly wording employees can select quickly. Avoid creating several answers that mean the same thing. Review the list when marketing channels change. Once required, employees must select a configured referral source in the applicable customer workflow. 4. Receipts and Invoices Configure receipt policies, timers, open invoices, and employee attribution. How to configure receipt policies and the receipt timer Receipt settings control the policy content used by supported receipts and how long the completed-receipt screen remains available at the register. Review receipt policies Open Settings > Register. Find the Receipt section. Review the receipt-policy options and the policy assigned to each supported workflow. Save any changes. Keep receipt wording consistent with the general business policy and any product-specific policies. The general policy remains the fallback when no more specific policy applies. Set the receipt timer Enter the number of seconds the completed-receipt view should remain available. Save the Register settings. Choose enough time for employees to print, email, or review the receipt without unnecessarily delaying the next transaction. To maintain the fallback policy, see How to create or update the general business policy. How to configure open invoices and payment receipts Open-invoice settings control when transactions can remain unpaid and which receipt is produced when money is later applied. Enable open invoices Open Settings > Register. Find Invoice Settings. Enable Open Invoice. If applicable, enable the option to create an open invoice when no payment is entered. Choose whether later payments produce a Payment Receipt or the related Invoice Receipt. Save the Register settings. Choose carefully Use open invoices only when the business allows balances to remain due. Train employees on when a transaction should be completed versus left open. Choose the receipt type that gives customers and accounting staff the clearest record of payment. How to require an employee on each invoice line item Enable line-item employee selection when products or services on the same invoice must be credited to different employees. Enable line-item selection Open Settings > Register. In Invoice Settings, enable the employee-per-line-item option. Save the Register settings. Employees will be able or required to associate supported invoice lines with the employee responsible for that item or service. This can improve commission, performance, or responsibility reporting when a transaction involves more than one employee. This is different from requiring one employee for the entire sale. Transaction-level employee verification is configured under Security Settings. 5. Product Entry and Search Configure register search, product-entry formatting, and supported lookup presentation. How to show the product search bar and choose its search style Configure how employees find products from the main register on supported desktop layouts. Show or hide product search Open Settings > Register. Find Search Bar. Select Show to make product search available, or Hide to remove it from the register. Save the settings. Choose the search presentation When the search bar is shown, find Product Search. Choose the standard dropdown or the larger searchable dialog that opens after Enter is pressed. Save the settings. Both supported presentations follow the same product-discovery rules. Employees can search by product name and supported identifiers, including exact UPC, SKU, IMEI, or serial number when applicable and available at the current location. For serialized lookup instructions, see How to find a device by IMEI or serial number. How to configure multiline and capitalized item names Product-entry formatting can make register descriptions easier to read and more consistent. Allow multiline item entry Open Settings > Register. Enable Multi-Line when sale descriptions need more than one line. Save the settings. Capitalize item names automatically Enable Capitalize Item Names. Save the settings. Automatic capitalization helps keep item descriptions visually consistent. Review abbreviations, model numbers, and brand styling when exact capitalization matters. 6. Quick Tools and Keypad Configure quick notes, keypad options, EBT, and Quick Sale buttons. How to create and manage Quick Notes Quick Notes provide reusable words or short phrases that employees can select instead of typing the same information repeatedly. Add a predefined word Open Settings > Register. Find Quick Note. Select Add. Enter the word or short phrase. Save it, then save Register settings. Remove a Quick Note Find the word in the Quick Note list. Select the delete control beside it. Save Register settings. Use short, recognizable wording so employees can make a fast selection without adding unnecessary text to customer records. How to configure keypad tax controls and EBT Supported register layouts provide keypad controls for tax choices and, for eligible configurations, EBT payment options. Configure tax controls Open Settings > Register. Find Keypad Settings. Enable Hide All Tax when tax controls should not appear on the keypad. If tax controls remain visible, choose whether to hide the No Tax option. Configure the additional keypad button when available. Save the settings. Configure EBT Find EBT Settings when this feature is available for your brand and account. Enable EBT. Choose whether the EBT button appears on the keypad. Save the settings. Tax and EBT configuration can affect checkout compliance and payment handling. Confirm the business requirements before changing these controls. How to set up Quick Sale buttons and categories Quick Sale places frequently used products, services, or categories within easy reach of the register. Enable Quick Sale Open Settings > Register. Find Quick Sale Settings. Enable Quick Sale. Select Add Button to configure an individual shortcut. If inventory categories are available, add a category to Quick Sale when appropriate. Arrange and review the shortcuts. Save the Register settings. Good Quick Sale design Prioritize the products and services employees use most often. Use clear names that fit comfortably on a button. Avoid creating several buttons with nearly identical meanings. Review shortcuts whenever prices, products, or services change. Register Settings overview Register Settings control how employees search for products, build a sale, select customers, manage receipts and invoices, and use shortcuts at checkout. Settings covered in this book Checkout controls: Discounts, quantity, price confirmation, product-cost updates, and cart position. Aging alerts: Thresholds for serialized inventory, repairs, and layaways. Customer requirements: Walk-in customer behavior, required customer selection, last names, and referral sources. Receipts and invoices: Policies, receipt timer, open invoices, payment receipts, and employee line-item selection. Product entry and search: Search display, search style, multiline descriptions, and capitalization. Quick tools: Quick Notes, keypad options, EBT, and Quick Sale. Before changing Register Settings Review the workflow with the employees who use the register. Some controls depend on the enabled modules, brand, device layout, or employee permissions, so not every option appears for every location. Changes apply to the location being managed. Save the page after making changes, then verify the intended behavior at the register. Start with checkout controls, or learn why inventory aging matters.
