# Register Fundamentals

Understand the register layout, Sale and Refund modes, cart, totals, notes, customer area, and checkout flow.

# What Is the Register?

**Navigation:** Open Register from the main navigation.

The register is where employees build a cart and complete a sale or refund. The screen brings together customer selection, Sale/Refund mode, product search, cart items, receipt notes, customer notes, discounts, tax, totals, Hold, Cancel, and checkout.

The register supports fast scanner-based selling as well as manual entry. You can find stocked products by identifiers, search by name, or enter a miscellaneous item when no inventory product should be used.

# Understand the Register Layout

- **Customer area:** Search, select, or keep the Walk-In Customer.
- **Sale/Refund switch:** Determines whether newly added lines are sales or returns.
- **Product entry:** Search by name or scan an IMEI, serial number, UPC/barcode, or SKU.
- **Cart:** Review item name, quantity, price, discount, and tax.
- **Notes:** Add receipt notes, customer notes, or a reference number.
- **Totals:** Review subtotal, discount, tax, surcharge when applicable, and amount due.
- **Actions:** Hold the cart, cancel it, or continue to checkout.

# How to Ring Up a Basic Sale

1. Open the Register and confirm **Sale** is selected.
2. Ask for the customer’s phone number and select the matching record, or keep Walk-In Customer.
3. Scan an identifier or type the product name.
4. Select the correct product and verify any required serial or IMEI.
5. Confirm quantity and price, then select **Add**.
6. Review every cart line, discount, tax, notes, and the amount due.
7. Continue to checkout, select the payment method, and complete payment.
8. Give the customer the receipt.

Pause before checkout: the customer, merchandise, serial numbers, prices, and payment method should all be correct.

# Sale Mode vs Refund Mode

The mode switch near the top of the register controls how the next item is added.

- **Sale:** Adds positive quantities and charges the customer.
- **Refund:** Adds negative quantities and prepares money to be returned.

Use Sale for normal transactions. Use Refund only after confirming the return and your store policy. After a refund item is added, the register can return to Sale mode automatically. If several items must be refunded directly, confirm Refund mode again before adding each additional item.

For the safest return tied to purchase history, start from the original receipt whenever possible.
