Discounts, Taxes & Notes Apply discounts, control tax on individual items or the full receipt, and record receipt and customer notes. How to Apply a Discount Add the products to the cart. Select the Discount total or the relevant item discount control. Choose or enter the authorized discount. Review the updated discount total, tax, and amount due. Confirm the reason or approval required by your store. Apply discounts before checkout and confirm that the customer received the intended amount—not a duplicate discount at both item and receipt levels. How to Add or Remove Tax from One Item Find the item in the cart. Open its edit or tax control. Turn tax off or on for that line. Confirm the item and receipt tax totals changed as expected. Only change tax when the sale qualifies under your store’s tax rules. A line-level change affects that item, while the Tax Amount control at the bottom affects the whole receipt. How to Toggle Tax for the Entire Receipt At the bottom of the register, select the Tax Amount row to toggle tax for the complete cart. Select it again to restore tax. Review the current tax amount. Select Tax Amount once. Confirm the receipt tax and amount due changed. Select it again if tax should be restored. This is a receipt-wide control. Review every cart line afterward and use it only for an authorized tax-exempt or taxable transaction. Receipt Notes vs Customer Notes Receipt Note: Information about this transaction. It stays with the receipt, such as a special sale explanation. Customer Note: Information connected to the customer for future visits. Save it from the Customer Note tab. Reference: An optional external or internal reference number for the transaction. When a selected customer already has a note, a red pulsing indicator draws attention to it. Read the note before continuing. Avoid sensitive or unnecessary information; write only useful business context.
