Customers at the Register Find customers reliably by phone number, use Walk-In Customer, and recognize notes, favorites, and blacklist warnings. Best Practice: Find the Customer by Phone Number Ask, “What is the best phone number for your account?” and search that number before trying the customer’s name. Why phone-first works Names are easily misspelled or may have several variations. Several customers may share a similar name. A phone number usually identifies the intended record faster. Using the existing profile keeps purchase history, loyalty, notes, and contact details together. Click the customer search area. Enter the phone number. Compare the returned name and phone number with the customer. Select the correct record. Do not create a duplicate profile until you have searched the full phone number. How to Search and Select a Customer Open the customer selector on the register. Search by phone number whenever possible. Name search is also available. Review the matching customer details. Select the correct customer. Check the customer area for favorite status, notes, or blacklist warnings before adding products. If the customer’s information is incomplete, update the correct existing profile instead of creating a near-duplicate. When to Use Walk-In Customer Leave the default Walk-In Customer selected when the shopper does not want to provide information and your store does not require a customer for that transaction. A walk-in sale is fast, but it is not connected to an individual customer’s history, notes, loyalty activity, or future lookup. Select a real customer for transactions that may need warranty lookup, account history, targeted service, or easier receipt retrieval. Understand Customer Notes, Favorites and Blacklist Warnings Customer note: A saved note appears with a red pulsing indicator so staff know to read it. The note may contain an important preference or warning. Favorite customer: A heart icon identifies favorite status. Blacklisted customer: The customer area turns red and displays the blacklist reason. A blacklist warning does not automatically prevent a sale. Stop, read the reason, and follow your store’s authorization policy before continuing. Never ignore a warning merely because checkout remains available.
